The Security Media Cell announced on Tuesday the arrest of eight Syrians who tried to cross towards Iraqi borders.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), SMC stated that, the Intelligence Department of West Nineveh Operations Command enabled to spot via thermal cameras a movement of a group of people in the Syrian side trying to cross the borders barrier towards Iraq.
The 15th Division of the Military Intelligence and in cooperation with a ground force from the 2nd Regiment, the 71st Infantry Brigade, ambushed them, and were able to arrest them as soon as they crossed the border near the village of (Kani Attar) belonging to the Rabia district, adjacent to the border strip west of Nineveh, adding that they are a family of eight people who hold Syrian citizenship, the statement mentioned.
SMC said that they were handed over to the concerned authorities to take the necessary legal measures.
