Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein stressed, today, Wednesday, with his Australian counterpart, Maris Payne, the need to reduce tension in the region.
The media office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received today, Wednesday, June 2, 2021, a phone call from Australia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maris Payne, and the two sides discussed the need to strengthen bilateral relations, and upgrade them to what meets the ambition of The two friendly peoples,” noting that “the Minister expressed his thanks to the Australian government for its supportive stances for Iraq in its war against ISIS terrorist gangs, calling for the importance of continued support until the eradication of the ideology that produced these terrorist groups.”
He added, "The two ministers discussed a number of regional and international issues of common concern, stressing the need to work to reduce tension and achieve calm in the region, and to avoid escalation that would not serve any party."
For her part, the Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that "Australia supports Iraq in all fields, including: the security field, and the reconstruction of liberated areas, and that its government has stood by the Iraqi government in its war against the terrorist organization ISIS."
The statement added, "The Minister invited the Minister to visit Iraq."
