    A judicial source told Sputnik that "the Wasit Court of Appeal sentenced to death an officer and 7 years in prison for another on charges of killing demonstrators in peaceful demonstrations in Wasit province.The Iraqi parliament approved, during a session held , the resignation of the government of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, against the backdrop of widespread protests in many Iraqi cities for nearly two months.

    The two-month-old protests demanding better living conditions have so far killed more than 400 people and injured thousands, the biggest wave of protests since the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime in 2003.
