The Ministry of Transport announced today, Sunday that 62 earthquakes were recorded inside Iraq during the past month.
The ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that "The Seismic Monitoring Department of the General Authority for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring issued the monthly report on seismic activity in Iraq and neighboring areas for the month of January 2025, with follow-up by the Director General of the Authority, Salman Al-Bahadli."
According to the statement "The total number of earthquakes recorded in the Iraqi seismic monitoring network during this month amounted to (92) earthquakes, including (62) earthquakes inside Iraq, and (22) earthquakes inside Iran near the Iraqi border. (8) Earthquakes were also recorded inside Turkey."
"The seismic activity inside Iraq during this month was significantly concentrated in Diyala Governorate (Khanaqin District) with 43 tremors, followed by Nineveh Governorate with 5 tremors, then Erbil Governorate with 5 tremors, and Sulaymaniyah Governorate with 4 tremors. Two tremors were also recorded in Maysan Governorate (Amara), two tremors in Kirkuk Governorate (Hawija), while one tremor was recorded in Dohuk Governorate."
