Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani confirmed on Wednesday that the development of the health sector has taken place along three tracks. He indicated that the government is in the process of establishing specialized health centers in governorates that lack them to meet their treatment needs and reduce the burden of travel and transportation for citizens.
The Prime Minister's media office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received a group of women who have successfully fought cancer, in the presence of a number of female specialist doctors and the Prime Minister's Advisor for Women's Affairs."
According to the statement, al-Sudani congratulated those present on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr and praised the exceptional resolve of women fighting cancer and their ability to bear the burden of this disease. He emphasized that "the health sector is a major priority for the government in all its activities."
According to the statement, the Prime Minister said, "The development of the health sector has been pursued along three tracks: the first is the provision of medicines, especially life-saving ones, and the localization of the pharmaceutical industry in Iraq. The second is focusing on specialized centers, allocating funds for them in the budget, and distributing them geographically." He explained that "the government is in the process of establishing specialized centers in the governorates that lack them to meet their treatment needs and reduce the burden of travel and transportation for citizens. The third track includes improving the level of service and performance in primary health centers and hospitals, and related to early detection of malignant diseases."
Al-Sudani praised "the efforts of health sector workers and their response to challenges, which reflects their humane principles and values."
During the meeting, he directed a free Umrah to the Holy House of God for the female cancer fighters, as a sign of pride and appreciation for them and their determination to confront the disease.
