The Ministry of Transport announced today, Wednesday that 9 earthquakes had been recorded inside Iraq.
The Ministry stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “The Seismic Monitoring Department of the General Authority for Meteorology issued the monthly report on the seismic bulletin and the map of seismic activity in Iraq and the surrounding areas for the month of April 2024, as the total number of recorded earthquakes reached there were (19) earthquakes in the Iraqi seismic monitoring network for this month, including (9) earthquakes inside Iraq and (10) earthquakes outside it and near its borders,” indicating that “the strength of the seismic events ranged between (2-3.7) degrees, while its focal depths ranged between (5-35) km.
"The seismic activity inside Iraq was distributed in each of Dohuk Governorate, four earthquakes, two earthquakes in Kirkuk Governorate, two earthquakes in Erbil Governorate, and one earthquake was recorded in Sulaymaniyah Governorate. As for the seismic activity recorded outside Iraq, specifically in Iran and Turkey, and near their borders with Iraq, where it was recorded seven tremors in Iran and three tremors in Turkey.”
According to the statement "the total number of reports issued regarding instantaneous tremors this month amounted to one report, and no human or material losses were recorded in the region as a result of the seismic activity this month."
