The leader of the Shiite National Movement, Sayyid Muqtada al-Sadr, said on Thursday that anyone who tries to take revenge on civilians does not represent Islam, pointing out that governments do not represent the people at all.
Sayyid al-Sadr said in a tweet followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We Muslims should not direct our weapons at Western peoples, including the American people, because the Arab peoples suffer from Western, American or Zionist terrorism, which is definitely contrary to the morals of our religion."
He added that "most of the American people are sympathetic to the Palestinian cause and reject Zionist terrorism and their government's support for this criminal entity."
"Anyone who tries to take revenge on civilians does not represent Islam, whether what happened in New Orleans or anywhere else," he said, noting that "governments do not represent the people at all, neither in America nor elsewhere."
