The Ministry of Water Resources MoWR announced Monday its control of the oil slick in the Tigris River.
The ministry said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that it "took control of the oil slick in the Tigris River, which was recently received with torrential rains coming from valleys near the Baiji refinery, Salah al-Din province."
MoWR added that "the aforementioned oil slick is gradually disappearing," pointing out that "this came through the exhaustion of its staff working there and through the General Authority for the Operation of Irrigation and Puncture Projects, to remove the slick and limit its spread in the Tikrit district towards Samarra, and to restart the liquefaction stations operating in Baiji, Tikrit and Al-Alam district."
