Hezbollah announced the election of Naim Qassem as the new Secretary-General of the party, succeeding Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
The resistance stated in a statement—followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA)—that "driven by faith in Allah Almighty, commitment to authentic Muhammadan Islam, and adherence to the principles and objectives of Hezbollah, the Hezbollah Shura Council has unanimously elected Sheikh Naim Qassem as Secretary General of Hezbollah, carrying the blessed banner in this journey. We ask Allah for guidance in this noble task of leading Hezbollah and its Islamic resistance."
It added, "We pledge to Allah Almighty, to the spirit of our esteemed and beloved martyr, His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah (may Allah be pleased with him), to the martyrs, the fighters of the Islamic resistance, and our steadfast, patient, and loyal people, to work together to achieve Hezbollah’s principles and objectives, keeping the flame of resistance burning and its banner raised until victory is attained. Indeed, Allah is the ultimate decider, and He is Powerful and Mighty."
