Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani stressed, today, Wednesday, the importance of ensuring the representation of all components of the Syrian people in the new system.
The Prime Minister's media office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his accompanying delegation."
"The meeting discussed the situation in Syria, the latest developments in it, and the European and international role in helping the Syrians to achieve stability and preserve Syria's unity and security, as well as emphasizing the need not to interfere in Syrian affairs, and that the people are the ones who decide the fate of their country."
According to the statement, the Prime Minister indicated Iraq's readiness to "provide assistance to the Syrians at this critical stage," stressing "the importance of ensuring the representation of all components of the Syrian people in the new system, in a way that achieves the aspirations of this people who deserve to live in security and peace."
"The meeting witnessed the discussion of bilateral relations between Iraq and Germany, and the discussion of joint cooperation in various fields, and the reference to Germany's supportive role for Iraq within the NATO mission and the international coalition."
According to the statement, Al-Sudani stressed Iraq's keenness to "maintain relations with Germany as an important economic partner."
For his part, Pistorius conveyed the greetings of the German Chancellor to the "Prime Minister," expressing "his country's aspiration to develop security and military relations in the field of training, and expand it in other fields, and in accordance with what was agreed upon during Al-Sudani's visit to Berlin last year."
He stressed that "Iraq is a prominent partner for Germany, which is interested in bilateral cooperation and coordination with it in various fields."
