Minister of Water Resources - MOWR, Aoun Diab, confirmed on Saturday that the main pumping station in Tharthar will boost the Euphrates River with 100m3/s of water.

"We visited the site of the main pumping station in Tharthar, which has reached advanced stages and is expected to operate at a capacity of 100m3/s to the Euphrates River," said Dhiab to the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

He added, "The Euphrates River needs to boost the quantities of water; because what comes to us from the Turkish or Syrian sides is not enough to meet the needs of the Euphrates River. Due to that, we adopted this method by taking advantage of Tharthar water to deliver it to the Euphrates River and secure the needs of all cities along the Euphrates River up to the Al-Chibayish area, Nasiriyah, as it will also feed the southern marshes."

Dhiab explained that "we held an extensive meeting in which we discussed many topics that have a direct impact and aim to enhance the Euphrates River with water from Tharthar."

"We have a quantity of fresh water coming from the Tigris River through the irrigation canal, and this canal is also important. We also discussed the possibility of increasing the filtration in it to mix fresh water with Euphrates water; to ensure a balance of salt concentrations and to ensure good water quality to deliver it to users," he noted.
