PEC plans to increase Dhi Qar's electricity production to 2,500 megawatts

    Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Energy Committee, Hassan Al-Asadi, confirmed today, Saturday, that a future plan has been developed in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity to increase the production of electrical energy in Dhi Qar Governorate to more than 2,500 megawatts. 

    Al-Asadi explained in a special statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "We met the Minister of Electricity during his visit to Dhi Qar Governorate, which came as a continuation of the plans that were set in 2023," noting that "there is great coordination between the Ministry of Electricity and the Parliamentary Energy Committee.".

    He added that "the coordination resulted in the development of a future plan aimed at increasing the production of electricity in Dhi Qar Governorate to reach more than 2,500 megawatts, in addition to solving bottlenecks in transmission and distribution lines," noting that "the Minister of Electricity launched a package of special projects in Dhi Qar Governorate within the budget for next year.".

    PEC Chairman pointed out that "the projects included solving bottlenecks in the 33 stations and 33 lines, and the 132 stations and 132 lines, in addition to completing arrangements for the German company Siemens to start work after completing the requirements for this matter.".

    Al-Asadi pointed out, "There is coordination between the parliamentary energy, the Ministry of Electricity, and the local government in Dhi Qar Governorate in order to overcome the problems and obstacles related to electrical energy that the governorate faced this summer," expressing his hope that, "all obstacles will be overcome during the coming summer."
