The German GIZ organization's draft income tax law was delivered to the Prime Minister's Office today, Thursday.

"Today, we participated in an important celebration to receive the draft of the new income tax law, which is considered one of the outcomes of the tax reform conference held last December," said Ali Razouki, the deputy director of the prime minister's office, to the Iraqi News Agency (INA). He added that "no money is collected or grants given in Iraq except by law."

He added that "the collection of income tax needs a transparent legal cover," noting that "this came within the recommendations that were achieved , as the Prime Minister directed to follow up on the decisions of the Tax Reform Forum and Conference, which worked intensively with international organizations, one of which is the German GIZ organization."

He stated, "Several meetings both inside and outside of Iraq resulted in the release of a significant draft of the income tax law." He went on to say that the draft increases trust between taxpayers, the government, and the General Tax Authority and promotes transparency in work, all of which are expected to have a major impact on the issue of tax reform and increase the nation's tax revenue.

saying that "it is not true that the country's budget depends on oil and its price, which fluctuates, thus shaking the country's economic system," he went on to say that "a sober and independent economic system for the country can only be built by ensuring a stable resource through an accurate, transparent, and fair tax system."

"The Supreme Committee for the Follow-up of Tax Reform Decisions, all the international organizations that contributed to the draft, and the Prime Minister for his important and intensive follow-up to everyone who builds a real country worthy of the dignity of the Iraqi citizen," he thanked in his statement.
