Weightlifter Ali Ammar was given special recognition by Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani after he broke two world records at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
"Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani, received on Monday, the President of National Olympic Committee of Iraq Aqil Muftan, and the international weightlifter Ali Ammar, who recently participated in the Paris Olympics," reads a statement from the Prime Minister's Media Office that the Iraqi News Agency (INA) obtained.
As per the statement, "the Prime Minister instructed to pay tribute to the weightlifter Ali Ammar, attend to him, take care of him, and organize training camps for his future entitlements."
"The Olympic champion project, which was established during the current government, is an ambitious project in order to create Olympic champions who compete in the Olympic tournaments, achieve victory, and rise to advanced podiums," the statement continued. "Al-Sudani stressed the government's continuation in providing full support for sports in all its forms, as it represents today as a means that reflects the country's external image, in addition to being an important entitlement at the level of government commitment to Iraqi athletes."
