The Ministry of Oil announced today, Thursday, the export of liquefied gas from Iraqi ports after increasing its local production, while indicating that the Najaf Governorate will be self-sufficient in liquefied gas when the governorate’s warehouse is completed.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Gas Affairs, Izzat Saber Ismail Abdullah, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "A visit was made to the Najaf Governorate to view the activities and services provided by the oil sector and the Ministry of Oil, especially the Gas Filling and Services Company," noting that "gas cylinders, drinking water, and public transportation were secured for the honourable visitors, and liquid gas was secured for cars and activities and the requirements for the Arbaeen visit were provided."
He stressed that "there is an increase in the quantities of liquefied gas throughout Iraq, and that production is greater than consumption," indicating that "a large part of the liquefied gas is exported through the Iraqi ports in Basra Governorate, and expectations indicate an increase in the quantities of liquefied gas production throughout Iraq, and the largest part of it will be exported."
For his part, the Director General of the General Company for Gas Filling and Services, Anmar Ali Hussein, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The General Company for Gas Filling and Services prepares every year from the beginning of the month of Muharram and takes all preparations to prepare government and private factories and equip warehouses with the necessary quantities of liquefied gas and supply the governorates located on the path of visitors with cylinders to secure liquefied gas to the Husseini processions in all governorates," noting "securing liquefied gas in distribution outlets to equip cars operating with liquefied gas."
Hussein explained that "the company has provided (7) million cylinders since the beginning of the month of Safar until now in all governorates," indicating that "the largest percentage is in the governorates of Babylon, Najaf, Karbala, and Baghdad, in addition to participating in the service effort in transporting visitors and providing services of water and ice to the processions of the honourable visitors."
He pointed out that "the Najaf Ashraf warehouse is one of the important projects within the government program implemented by the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, as it contains a tank with a capacity of 3000 cubic meters," noting that "if this project is completed, the Najaf Ashraf Governorate will be satisfied with liquefied gas and the transfer of gas from other governorates to this governorate will be stopped, and it will be equipped from the Karbala refinery, and thus we will be able to secure all the governorate's needs, in addition to other projects implemented in the governorate, including workshops to add liquefied gas systems and establish new outlets."
