Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani inaugurated the first phase of the Ur City Tourism Project today, during his visit to Dhi Qar Province.
The Prime Minister's Media Office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA),”The first phase of the project includes the construction of a cultural center, the Sumerian Open-air theatre, Ur theater, an interfaith dialogue center, and an administrative wing with meeting rooms.”
The Prime Minister also announced ,”the commencement of several other projects: the Ur Global Museum, a 400-room tourist hotel, a drama production city, the Khatam Al-Anbiya Mosque, and a heritage market within Ur City, all as part of a strategic package funded by the Dhi Qar Construction Fund.”
In a press statement, the Prime Minister highlighted,” that this is his second visit to Dhi Qar this year, as part of a field monitoring and communication strategy to oversee the progress of projects or approve new ones,he emphasized the historical and touristic significance of the province, as well as the sacrifices made by its people.”
The Prime Minister praised,” the completion of the Ur Theater, which is ready to host various cultural activities, and confirmed the laying of the foundation stones for other important projects in Ur City. These include the Cultural City project, approved by the Council of Ministers, and the launch of a museum and hotel, ensuring comprehensive services for tourists he also mentioned the ongoing work on Nasiriyah International Airport to welcome tourists and pilgrims.”
Additionally, the Prime Minister noted,” the opening of the Local Administration Stadium, a key sports facility built to advanced standards it was opened without a formal ceremony out of respect for the Arbaeen pilgrimage he further highlighted the importance of the healthcare sector with the opening of Al-Batha Hospital, stressing the need to provide comprehensive medical staff across specialties.”
In the energy sector, the Prime Minister highlighted, "several key projects that will benefit the southern districts of the province and connect them to the power grid via the Rumaila station in Basra. These transportation and distribution projects aim to ensure the sustainability of electricity as part of the government’s vision for expanding power production.”
The Prime Minister also confirmed that," 1,260 megawatts of the planned 10,000 megawatt production project will be allocated to Dhi Qar the project, part of a new economic model, is expected to succeed. Additionally, the contract with Siemens Energy will add 912 megawatts to the power grid through a combined-cycle expansion financed by the German loan the expansion projects under the GE contract will secure an additional 250 megawatts of electricity, part of the Iraq-China agreement.”
The Prime Minister further explained that more than 2,400 megawatts of electricity projects have been approved and are underway in the province efforts are also being made to improve distribution and reduce load. The Prime Minister mentioned renewable energy projects, with a contract for 300 megawatts of solar power set to be activated, in line with the government’s program.
