Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari issued four additional Arbaeen Pilgrimage directives on Monday.
In a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Shammari stated that "it is proceeding smoothly and there are no road blockades so far." He added that "the process of transferring pilgrims to the Arbaeen Pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (pbuh) is continuing to and from inside the holy city of Karbala."
He declared, "On the Musayyib-Karbala holy road and the Jurf al-Nasr-Karbala holy road, saloon vehicles coming from Baghdad will be diverted towards Al Hur area and only buses will be allowed to reach Bab al-Abbas, column 10."
He stressed "the need to focus on controlling the movement of the cross and not interfering pilgrims with the vehicles to prevent vehicular accidents," noting that "students of the Police Academy will participate in the plan to help control traffic and prevent accidents."
"The security of pilgrims remains the first task of the security forces and agencies, and commanders must follow up and implement the security plan strictly to ensure the safety of pilgrims," he said.
