Australia beats Spain with an exciting basketball win

    The Australian national team began its journey in the men's basketball competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with an exciting victory over its Spanish counterpart 92-80 today, Saturday, in the opening of the first group competitions.

    Patty Mills scored 19 points and Josh Geddie added 17 as Australia won for the first time in Group A, which also includes Greece and Canada.

    The Australian team was leading by 14 points at one point, but Spain rose and took the lead for the first time, 56-54, in the third quarter, but the Australian team regained its balance and ended the third quarter in the lead, and maintained its advantage until the end.

    Santi Aldama scored 17 points for Spain and Sergio Llull added 17 points.

    Spain's Rudy Fernandez became the first basketball player to participate in six different Summer Olympics.

    Fernandez (39 years old) achieved his historic achievement today, Saturday, by participating after five minutes of the first quarter of Spain's match against Australia.

    The Australian team will meet its Canadian counterpart next Tuesday, coinciding with Spain's match against Greece.
