The Ministry of Trade announced on Saturday, its participation in the technical meetings organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Istanbul, focusing on the accession of Arab countries to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
According to a statement received by INA, the Ministry of Trade joined the two-day technical discussions organized by UNCTAD to deliberate on the experiences of Arab countries in their efforts to join the WTO.
Representing the Ministry at the meetings, Director General of the Department of Foreign Economic Relations, Riyad Fakher Al-Hashimi, stated that the discussions covered the outcomes of the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference, the progress of Arab countries in their accession to the organization, and how Iraq can benefit from these experiences in its journey towards membership. Additionally, the importance of trade in services in supporting and enhancing the economies of Arab countries was highlighted.
Al-Hashimi emphasized that Iraq's participation in these technical meetings enriches the expertise of its negotiation team, propelling it forward rapidly towards achieving full WTO membership. He noted that the knowledge exchange and experiences gained from these meetings will significantly improve Iraq's negotiation capabilities and help attain its economic objectives.
The statement also pointed out that this participation is part of the Ministry of Trade's ongoing efforts to strengthen Iraq's international economic relations and leverage available opportunities to boost the country's economic and trade development.
