There is Uruguay's lineup for the Copa América. We have Ronald (Araujo) making the cut, which is no surprise. Then there's Lucho (Luis Suárez), and his inclusion depends on the coach. It was a big question mark because he doesn't quite fit into Marcelo Bielsa's football plan. However, he is the all-time leading scorer for the team and is geared up for the Cup. Maybe (with Suárez, you never know) this could be his final performance. And he's aiming to dance with the most coveted partner, the Cup.
The major shocker is the absence of Luciano Rodríguez, the Uruguayan gem, who is set to join Girona next season after a deal between City Group and his club, Liverpool from Montevideo, for a whopping 15 million euros plus a share of any future transfer profits.
Also in the mix is Fede (Valverde), who clinched the 15th title with Real Madrid and is now eyeing the 16th in the Copa América with Uruguay. Of course, Josema Giménez couldn't be left out, the young leader, although not so young anymore, and possibly the captain in the United States.
Facundo Pellistri has been confirmed, having played for Granada in the recent Spanish league, and is likely to start as the right winger in the opening match on the 23rd against Panama in Miami. Brian Ocampo from Cádiz made the squad at the last minute, despite being Bielsa's top pick from the beginning, but he's out due to a serious knee injury.
Other notable inclusions are Rodrigo Bentancur from Tottenham; Giorgian De Arrascaeta and Nico de la Cruz from Brazilian club Flamengo; Manu Ugarte from PSG; goalkeeper Sergio Rochet from Inter Porto Alegre. Notably absent is Edi Cavani, who recently stepped down from the Uruguayan team.
Today a group of soccer players will fly from Montevideo. In the United States there is already another group, which played on Wednesday against Mexico (Uruguay 4-0). Fede Valverde will arrive after a few days of rest after the Champions League final. Suárez, who plays for Inter Miami and lives in the area, is still walking.
Tomorrow, Sunday night, the 26 will sleep under the same roof, in Palm Beach, where they will remain until the 19th, to go to Miami, where Uruguay will debut on the 23rd. Thousands of stars will illuminate the dream. The dream of star 16 for the celestial one.
