97 countries are preparing to participate in the BRICS Games in the city of Kazan.
The BRICS Games are an annual multi-sport event that is becoming increasingly popular among the member states of the BRICS economic group. The event is usually held by the country that chairs the group.
As part of Russia’s presidency of the BRICS, it was decided this year to hold the 2024 Games in the city of Kazan, which are scheduled to be held from 12 to 23 June.
Athletes from 97 participating countries, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, will gather in Kazan. Since the Games are held in an open format, athletes from other countries are invited to participate, and a record number of medals will be awarded - More than 360 groups - At the BRICS Games in Kazan, participants will compete in 27 types of sports, including athletics, weightlifting, swimming and diving, artistic and athletic gymnastics, wrestling, table tennis, lawn tennis and others.
In addition to sporting events, guests of the BRICS Games will enjoy a rich cultural program and autograph sessions with sports celebrities. The Games will be held in 16 venues in Kazan, which in the past have already hosted international and All-Russian competitions and were rebuilt specifically for the BRICS Games.
Leading Russian gymnasts Daniel Marinov and Nikita Nagorny, multiple Olympic synchronized swimming champion Svetlana Kolesnichenko, Olympic fencing champions Yana Egoryan and Sofia Velikaya, world running champion Sergei Shubenkov, divers Evgeny Kuznetsov and Nikita Schleicher, and many others have already confirmed their participation. There will also be large delegations from Brazil and China in Kazan, which will send experienced athletes and talented youth to the Games.
