The Central Criminal Court issued, on Wednesday, a 15-year prison sentence against a convict for the crime of kidnapping a citizen and bargaining with his relatives in exchange for money.
The Supreme Judicial Council – SJC stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the convict, by Agreement and in conjunction with other defendants, kidnapped a citizen in al-shorta al-khamesa District in 2015 and then stole money and golden jewelry from his home" ,pointing out that "he bargained with his relatives to pay (15) thousand dollars and then release him”.
"The sentence was issued based on the provisions of Article 4/ 1 and the indication of Article 2/ 1, 3 and 8 of the Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005 and based on the provisions of Article 132/ 1 of the Penal Code", the statement added.
