Prison sentences for a convict, a drug dealer, and criminals who kidnapped a child in three governorates

    The Supreme Judicial Council announced the issuance of prison sentences for a convict, a drug dealer, and criminals who kidnapped a child in three governorates.
     
    A statement by the Council, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated: “The Rusafa Criminal Court issued three sentences of severe imprisonment for two years for each sentence against a convict to be executed consecutively for the crime of fraud by taking sums of money from three people in exchange for his promise to them of appointment.”
     
    The statement added, "The convict defrauded three citizens through the social media program - Tik ok, by taking sums of money from them in exchange for appointing them and completing their transactions."
     
    It pointed out, "The convict impersonated an officer in the Counter-Terrorism Service and took a sum of money amounting to 16 thousand dollars from one of the complainants in exchange for his appointment to the Counter-Terrorism Service. He also took a sum of one thousand US dollars from one of the complainants in exchange for her appointment to Iraqi Airlines, claiming that he works at an airport Baghdad International.
     
    The statement continued, "The convict also defrauded one of the complainants with a sum of money amounting to 11 million dinars in exchange for completing a transaction related to her father," pointing out that "the sentences were issued in accordance with the provisions of Article 456/1 of the Penal Code."
     
    The Council stated in a second statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “the Dhi Qar Criminal Court issued a life imprisonment sentence against two people who kidnapped a child and released him in exchange for a sum of money,” noting that “the ruling was issued against them for the crime of kidnapping a child and releasing him in exchange for a sum of money amounting to forty thousand dollars and for terrorist motives in Basra Governorate.”
     
    It continued, "The ruling was issued in accordance with the provisions of Article 4/1 of the Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005."
     
    The judiciary confirmed in a third statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “the Wasit Criminal Court issued a fifteen-year prison sentence against a drug dealer for the crime of trafficking in narcotic substances,” explaining that “the convict was found in possession of 80 grams of the narcotic substance methylamphetamine.”
     
    It stated that "the ruling was issued in accordance with the provisions of Article 27/First of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017 and in reference to Articles 47, 48 and 49 of the Penal Code and as an inference to the provisions of Article 132 thereof."
