Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani announced today, via teleconference, the launch of 14 infrastructure and rehabilitation projects in Sinjar and the Nineveh Plains, as part of the first phase of development initiatives with a total cost of 18 billion IQD. These projects focus on the reconstruction, rehabilitation, and development of major roads connecting towns and villages of various lengths.

The Media Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement, received by The Iraqi News Agency-INA that “The Prime Minister emphasized that these projects, funded by the Sinjar and Nineveh Plains Reconstruction Fund, align with the government’s vision to prioritize reconstruction efforts in Sinjar, the Nineveh Plains, and the districts of Zummar and Qahtaniyah—areas that suffered systematic destruction by ISIS terrorists. He commended the efforts of the Governor of Nineveh, local administrative leaders, and officials managing the Reconstruction Fund, stressing that the second phase will include projects covering additional areas”.

The statement added, “The Prime Minister further highlighted that the sacrifices made by the people of Sinjar and the Nineveh Plains, both during the fight against ISIS and under the former regime’s oppression, have led the government to establish a dedicated reconstruction fund, included in the government’s program. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ending displacement, implementing development projects as a catalyst for IDP return, and securing essential services such as water, electricity, education, and healthcare under an emergency response plan”.

Additionally, the Prime Minister pointed to upcoming major projects, such as Sinjar University, and emphasized coordinated efforts among ministries, service departments, and local administrations to avoid obstacles and ensure smooth execution. He also stressed that Sinjar and the Nineveh Plains possess abundant natural resources, qualifying them to become economic hubs that boost development and create job opportunities.
