The Federal Commission of Integrity- FCOI announced ,on Monday, the issuance of 10 years' imprisonment for a treasurer in the Dhu Qar tax department.
A statement issued by the Commission’s Government Media and Communications Office, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "the Criminal Court of Dhi Qar - the first commission issued a decision to sentence a treasurer in the tax department in Dhi Qar province to ten years in prison for exploiting his job and seizing (472,580,182) dinars from the amounts collected from the tax imposed on commercial activities in the province" ,indicating that "the amounts mentioned are differences between the registered income and what was actually deposited, as the convicted by invalidating the " memorandums", and then seizing its amounts".
The statement added that "the court, after reviewing the evidence obtained in the case, which was represented by the statements of the legal representative of the tax department and the statements of the defendants separating their cases, as well as the results of the administrative investigation that directed the dismissal penalty to the accused, and the minutes of the audit of the financial control for 2018, found it sufficient and convincing to convict".
The statement continued " the first commission in the Criminal Court of Dhi Qar issued its decision to impose a ten-year prison sentence on the convicted person in accordance with the provisions of Article (316) of the Penal Code, in addition to obliging him to pay an amount (472,580,182) dinars to the general tax authority to be obtained by the methods prescribed by law, and the ruling decision also included support for the seizure of movable and immovable property of the convicted, and give the right to the general tax authority to claim compensation in front of the civil courts”.
