SJC: Death penalty for a terrorist, two drug traffickers

    The Supreme Judicial Council-SJC announced on Tuesday, that Maysan Criminal Court issued a death sentence against a terrorist for the crime of detonating a car bomb in the center of the city of Amara in 2007.

     “Maysan Criminal Court issued a death sentence against a terrorist for the crime of detonating a car bomb in the center of the city of Amara in 2007”, stated SJC in a statement, received by The Iraqi News Agency-INA.
     
    "The terrorist with other defendants, committed this crime on Dijla Street, which resulted in (17) martyrs and (50) injuries," the statement added.
     
    “The ruling against the terrorist comes in accordance with the provisions of Article Two 1/7 and in terms of Article Four/1 of the Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of the year2005," the statement continued.
     
    In a related issue, Karkh Criminal Court issued two death sentences against two convicts for the crime of drug trafficking.

    " Three and a half kilograms of hashish were found in possession of the convicts with the intention of trading it and selling it among users."

    "The two rulings were issued based on the provisions of Article 27/First of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017 and in reference to Articles 47, 48 and 49 of the Penal Code No. 111 of 1969,"The statement affirmed.
     
    The statement also explained that " Dhi Qar Criminal Court issued a life imprisonment sentence against the kidnapper of a citizen in the city of Nasiriyah and bargaining with his family for sums of money."
     
    The statement pointed out that "the ruling against the accused comes based on the provisions of Article Two/1/3/8 and in accordance with Article Four/1 of the Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005."
