Ministry of Transportation confirmed Thursday, the adoption of smart trains in the Development Road, indicating that the completion rate of detailed designs for the development road reached 18 percent.
The Director General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation, Jabbar Aliwi, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The initial designs have been completed by 100% for the railway lines and the highway in the Development Road, while the detailed designs have begun," pointing out that "the completion rate of detailed designs has currently reached approximately 18%."
He explained that "the Development Road is a railway project and a land road, and the design of the railways is based on a design speed of 300 kilometers per hour for trains passenger and 160 kilometers per hour for goods," noting that "the design speed on this road is 300 kilometers per hour, so it is not necessary for trains to travel at this speed, but they may travel at a speed of 200 or less."
He added that "the length of the project is 1200 kilometers, extending from the Grand Port of Faw to the area of Fishkhabur on the Turkish border, and then the Turks will link with this road," noting that "the final designs will be completed on 31/12/2025 according to the terms of the contract and received by the Italian consultant."
Aliwi pointed out that "during the stage of delivery of designs, the routes will be completed, and each route that is completed will be announced to the companies implementing the project, and will not wait until 31/12, in which the designs will be received," pointing out that "the project will not announce a single announcement due to the delay in its work, and for the speed of completion, this will be the way directed by the Ministry of Transport."
He stressed that "smart trains will be adopted in this Road, and we design and implement according to the vision of 50 years forward and keep pace with the human development taking place during this period, and we will not face any problems or obstacles in the arrival of better trains than we currently have and their entry on this track," pointing out that "the trains that will be used have European specifications because these trains will cross to Europe by this road."
