The Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibas Al-Saadawi, announced today, Friday, the initiation of practical measures to separate Iraqi airports from the Civil Aviation Authority.
A statement from the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said: “Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani chaired a meeting that included a delegation from the International Finance Corporation IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, in the presence of the Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibas al-Saadawi and a number of government officials, to follow up on the signed agreement.” With the Corporation to rehabilitate and develop Baghdad International Airport.
The statement added, "Al-Sudani stressed during the meeting that the interest in developing Baghdad International Airport, which represents Iraq's interface with the world, comes within a comprehensive vision adopted by the government to develop all airports and improve their services.".
He pointed out, "The agreement includes presenting an integrated investment portfolio that includes how the international airport will be expanded, financed, operated, and maintained, and make it compatible with international standards for airports in the world.".
The Minister of Transport confirmed according to the statement that “the agreement aims to raise the efficiency of the airport, its facilities and safety factors, and to improve its services, to comply with international standards for airports in the world,” stressing that “the Ministry has begun studying the development of all the country’s airports because of their great importance as stations.”
Al-Saadawi continued, "The Ministry has developed service and development plans, in preparation for assuming responsibility for airport management, which aims to provide the best services at airports.
He warned, "The Ministry has initiated the procedures for the process of separating Iraqi airports from the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority and linking them to the Ministry in implementation of Council of Ministers Resolution No. (23689) for the year 2023, stressing the Ministry’s endeavor to address the obstacles facing the completion of procedures for linking Iraqi airports to the Ministry of Transport, in accordance with the legal contexts and government directives.
