Al-Sudani Sponsors Signing of Agreement with International Finance Corporation for Baghdad International Airport Development

    Media Office of the Prime Minister stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency INA that “Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani sponsored the signing of an agreement with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for the development and rehabilitation of Baghdad International Airport. The Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority represented the Iraqi side in signing the agreement.”
     
    The statement added that “The agreement encompasses providing the international corporation with a comprehensive investment portfolio for the expansion, financing, operation, and maintenance of Baghdad International Airport. The goal is to enhance its facilities, safety measures, and overall services, aligning with global airport standards, facilitated by a specialized international firm.”
     
    The statement also added that “Prime Minister Al-Sudani emphasized that this agreement is part of a broader series of agreements with the private sector. These partnerships will play a vital role in developing critical infrastructure across various sectors in Iraq, aligning with an economic vision extending to 2030. This vision aims to bolster the infrastructure necessary for the sustainable growth of the Iraqi economy.”
     
    The Prime Minister underlined according to the statement “the government's commitment to the Baghdad International Airport project. He emphasized its significance as an outlook of Iraq and its people. This project aligns with a comprehensive vision encompassing all airports and seeks to diversify transportation methods while fostering international connectivity with regional and global partners.”
     
    “The agreement entails that the International Finance Corporation, a World Bank Group member, offering guidance on enhancing the private sector's involvement in public services, forming partnerships with the public sector, and addressing forthcoming challenges in various sectors,” the statement said.
     
    It further mentioned that “The International Finance Corporation boasts a wealth of experience in airport rehabilitation globally, including its oversight of the development and expansion of key airports in Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan.”
