Media Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency INA that “Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani sponsored the signing of a cooperation and capacity-building agreement between the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) at the Government Palace.”
“The agreement with ICAO aims to enhance the institutional development of the aviation authority, provide expertise and support, and contribute to the overall development of the civil aviation sector and air transport in Iraq,” the statement added.
It also pointed out that “The agreement was signed on the Iraqi side by the head of the Civil Aviation Authority and on the ICAO side by the organization’s regional director in the Middle East.”
The Council of Ministers approved, according to the statement, the terms of the cooperation agreement with ICAO in Cabinet Resolution No. 23610 of 2023. In January, the Council of Ministers also approved an amendment to Cabinet Resolution No. 332 of 2019. This amendment allowed the Civil Aviation Authority to contract with experts from the IATA (International Air Transport Association) and ICAO to develop various aspects of the aviation and air transport sector, including aviation operations, air navigation services, airport licensing, aviation security, and certifications for workers in civil aviation and aviation medicine.
