Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced on Monday, the General Company for Air Navigation Services seeks to open new air corridors with the State of Kuwait via holding several regular meetings by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
"The company's air traffic management officials held a series of meetings with the Kuwaiti and Bahraini sides in implementation of the recommendations as well as, a request from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for the Middle East to discuss opening new corridors with Kuwait,” said the company's general manager, Nizar Ibrahim Al-Ziyadi in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.
He added that "the meetings were held with the aim of promoting the increase in the number of aircraft transiting between the Gulf States (Iraq, Kuwait and Bahrain) in preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Qatar for the period from November 21 to December 18,"
In turn, the official of the area unit in the Air Traffic Management Department, Haider Dhafer Al-Adari, stated, according to the statement, that "two successive meetings were held under the chairmanship of the Middle East representative of ICAO with the Iraqi, Kuwaiti and Bahraini side, followed by a third meeting on 10th, March 2022 that will be decisive based on ICAO Middle East Airlines organization's request.
"The goal will be to exchange ideas, opinions and present proposals, in addition to putting up obstacles that need to achieve technical requirements and finding ways to open new air corridors between Iraq and Kuwait, especially after lifting the ban by the administration of the Federal Organization FAA and the great demand by international airlines using air corridors of Iraq as the shortest way between East and West,” he included.
