President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received, on Wednesday, an Iraqi artifact belonging to the Assyrian civilization.
The media office of the President of the Republic said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the President of the Republic, visited the Medieval Civil Museum in Bologna in Italy, accompanied by Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, Minister of Migration and Displacement Ivan Faiq Jabro and a number of advisers and officials."
"Upon the arrival of the president's motorcade at the Medieval Civil Museum, he was received by a number of superior figures, who expressed their happiness for the visit of President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid to the museum," the statement explained.
It added, "During the meeting, an Iraqi artifact belonging to the Assyrian civilization was received, and the president and the minister of culture thanked the Italian government for that."
The President of the Republic affirmed that "Iraq values Italy's efforts to restore Iraqi antiquities as well as its contribution to antiquities exploration operations in coordination with the competent Iraqi official agencies", noting that "the meeting witnessed an expanded talk of the destruction and looting of Iraqi antiquities over the ages, most recently by the terrorist gangs of ISIS."
The Minister of Culture pointed out "the efforts made in the restoration of Iraqi antiquities," referring in this regard to "the recovery of (17) thousand pieces from the United States and nearly (6) thousand artifacts from the United Kingdom, and (2500) from Lebanon and some coins from Egypt."
The President was briefed on "the various wings of the museum, which included an exhibition of Iraqi and Arab artists that included sculptures and various works of art, and listened to a briefing on the contents of the museum and the history of its establishment, expressing his happiness to visit the museum," pointing out that "Iraq and Italy share a historical and cultural heritage."
