The French Court of Cassation issued a decision today, Wednesday, to reject the appeal submitted by former French President Nicolas Sarkozy in the (wiretapping) case, which makes him permanently indebted.

The French news station BFM reported that the ruling issued by the Court of Cassation is considered "final" and this is the first conviction of a French president.

Sarkozy had filed an appeal after the appeals court confirmed his initial conviction of three years in prison, including one year (via an electronic bracelet) in the so-called wiretapping case.

It explained that Sarkozy was convicted in 2023 of corruption and influence peddling, and he was also issued two other sentences against him, depriving him of his civil rights for three years, and making him ineligible for any elections.
