The Parliament reveals a vision for the preparations of the current year budget

    The Parliamentary Finance Committee revealed its vision regarding preparing the budget for the current year while stressing the need to urge the upstream countries to give Iraq its prescribed water share.
     
    A meeting of the Parliamentary Finance Committee was held on Monday, with the delegation of G7 chaired by the head of the committee, Atwan Al-Atwani.
     
    "We presented our vision regarding preparing the budget for the current year, and we also discussed a number of important files regarding various production and service sectors,” said Al-Atwani in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.
     
    Al-Atwani stressed, "the necessity of the current year's budget to address the urgent needs and demands of society, especially the vulnerable classes," noting that "the budget will include expanding coverage of the social protection network grant, improving and increasing the ration card items."
     
    He asserted "giving the health sector great importance in the budget by including the establishment of health projects, such as building new, advanced hospitals and completing lagging ones, as well as establishing specialized centers for the treatment of cancer and heart diseases," calling on "the Group of Seven economic countries to support Iraq and enable it to develop its oil sector, in addition to the establishment of major projects for the refining and producing oil derivatives to meet the country's need for these derivatives internally instead of excessive reliance on importing them from abroad.”

    Regarding the electricity file, Al-Atwani welcomed the "new government approach by moving towards the production of renewable energy," expressing his "full support for the agreements and contracts concluded recently with solid international companies, whether Siemens and GE, to develop this vital and important sector in a manner that meets the aspirations of citizens."
     
    On the water regard, Al-Atwani called for "the ambassadors to urge the upstream countries to give Iraq its prescribed water share and share the damage with it, in accordance with international agreements between the riparian countries."
     
    In turn, the ambassadors of the countries of the group expressed their "full readiness to harness the expertise and capabilities to support Iraq, develop its capabilities, its banking and tax system," stressing "the need for continued communication and cooperation in a way that enhances true partnership in order to set priorities for achieving sustainable development."
