PM: Iraq is a historical center of Christianity in the Middle East

    Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani confirmed today, Wednesday, that Iraq is a historical center for Christianity in the Middle East.
     
    The Prime Minister's media office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani extended his congratulations and wishes on the occasion of Christmas, in a joint call, via Closed-circuit television (CCTV), with a number of Christian clerics in various churches in Iraq's governorates."
     
    During the call, Prime Minister expressed his "best and deepest congratulations on the occasion of the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ (peace be upon him), which brings goodness and stability to the Iraqis this year, as they enjoy peace and the spirit of brotherhood among all segments of our Iraqi people."
     
    The statement added that "the head of the Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese in Basra, Bishop Simeon Kaskos, the head of the Armenian Catholic Church in Iraq from Baghdad, Bishop Narses Joseph, the head of the Assyrian Church of the East in Baghdad and Basra, Bishop Elia, the Bishop of Kirkuk and Nineveh for the Ancient Church of the East, Bishop Mar Shimon Daniel, the Bishop of the Monastery of Mar Matti from Mosul, Bishop Musa Shamani for the Syriac Orthodox, and the Archbishop of the Chaldean Archdiocese of Erbil, Bishop Bashar Matti Warda participated in the call and exchanged congratulations with the Prime Minister."
     
    Prime Minister pointed out, according to the statement, that "the birth of Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) is an occasion for all of humanity to review what we have implemented and applied of his teachings and principles," stressing "the strength of diversity in Iraq, which represents the distinctive feature of the Iraqi people over many years, with its various spectra."
     
    It continued, "We celebrated these days the great victory over the terrorist ISIS gangs, which targeted Iraqi diversity."
