President of the Republic Abdullatif Jamal Rashid stressed on Sunday, the need to strengthen cooperation between Iraq the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).
The Media Office of the Presidency of the Republic stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "President Rashid received today, Sunday, at the Baghdad Palace, the Director General of (ISESCO), Salem bin Muhammad Al-Malik."
During the meeting, the President of the Republic stressed, according to the statement, "the importance of strengthening cooperation and communication between Iraq and the organization in the fields of education, science, technology and culture, exchanging experiences, developing education systems experiences," noting "the need to encourage the spread of science and culture among young generations to contribute to building society."
The media office stated that "the director general presented the organization's shield to the president, appreciating the meeting with him."
He added, "Al-Malik confirmed ICESCO aspiration to enhance the level of cooperation with relevant Iraqi institutions, expressing the organization's desire to nominate Baghdad to be the capital of Islamic culture."
It was reported that "the President of the Republic welcomed the nomination of Baghdad to be the capital of Islamic culture," pointing to "the need for attention not to be limited to one city, but to include all cities of Iraq."
