The Communications and Media Commission - CMC announced on Saturday the ban on broadcasting the TV show named "Muawiyah" on MBC Iraq.

"The ban decision is based on the legal grant under Legislative Order 65 of 2004 in force, and in commitment to its responsibility to regulate the media sector and ensure that media content is consistent with the national and professional standards adopted in Iraq," said he Commission in a statement - received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

The statement highlighted that "broadcasting works of a controversial historical nature may lead to the incitement of sectarian debates, which threatens societal peace and affects the social fabric, especially during the month of Ramadan."

CMC called on "all media institutions to adhere to professional standards and avoid broadcasting content that may cause sedition or sectarian incitement."

CMC issued an official letter to the management of MBC Iraq in this regard, demanding it to comply with the decision and not broadcast the TV show series, stressing that it "will take the necessary legal measures against any party that violates the media controls in force in the country."
