Ministry of Electricity confirmed on Saturday, the stability of the system returns as it was before the failure of the Iranian gas pipeline, clarifying the positive aspects of the connection with the neighboring countries paving the way for Iraq to enter the Arab interconnection system.
"The defect in the gas pipeline was on the Iranian side. It was fixed this morning, and the loads have continued to rise since then, as the energy supply will return as it was yesterday, this evening," said the spokesman for Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Moussa to Al-Iraqiya News TV, followed by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.
He explained that "the file of the electrical connection with neighboring countries is governed by the necessities and needs of the national system. As for the Turkish side, we have completed the final connection work and signed the operating agreement in addition to signing a strategic agreement at Jeddah Conference with Saudi Arabia and with the Gulf Interconnection Authority. We have also completed several stages of this connection, and we also have 4 connected lines network synchronously coming from Iran.”
"The areas of Al-Qaim, Al-Rutba, Akashat and Anah in Anbar have suffered from complete destruction of infrastructure due to terrorism. Therefore, the need has arisen to connect AND linking with Jordan, in addition to the rest of the countries that gives the national network,” he noted.
Moussa pointed out, “First, it offers great stability and secondly, it prepares Iraq to enter as an important member in the energy market, and not only that, but the third will be an energy pathway, preserver and a member of the ‘Arab Eight’ linkage system, as there will also be a fourth benefit by exchanging the energy benefit, i.e. filling our shortage and also filling the needs of the rest of the countries when we reach the stage of sufficiency.”
He stressed "the need for such agreements as an important factor because there is a gap between the amount of energy produced and demand since it is constantly rising, especially with the absence of budgets, for the current year budget has not been approved. Thus, this prevented us from completing our strategic projects due to the lack of additional allocations."
"The agreements reflect the policy of the Ministry of Electricity and will not be canceled by changing governments because they are strategic agreements and projects that will be established in the future," he concluded.
