5 recommendations plus statements regarding the protests, NSC

    National Security Council – NSC issued on Saturday, 5 recommendations in addition to statements that included praising the peaceful protests and the discipline of the security forces.
     
    "Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi chaired an important meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security. Ministers of Defense and Interior attended the meetin, in addition to a number of security leaders during of which the current security situations were discussed," according to a statement by the Prime Minister Media Office, received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.
     
    The meeting asserted the following:
    1. Praising the protestors and the peaceful protests as they were keen on being peaceful, and to present their legitimate demands that seek a country free of corruption and reform. They earned the preservation of freedom of expression from any interfered practices that harm its constitutional and human essence.

    2. The efforts of the security forces are commended, for they performed their duties with a high sense of responsibility. They dealt with high professionalism as well in protecting the peaceful protests, and not getting into sensitive contact with some individual cases that tried to provoke violence and assault, as they controlled the situation calmly and positively. This reflected an honorable image of the discipline of our heroic security forces.
     
    3. The attendees affirmed their rejection of the Iranian bombing, which caused great damage, stressing their rejection of attempts to take Iraq as an arena for settling scores. They recommended that the government - and the responsible authorities - continue to take all necessary measures to stop these behaviors, and address everything that contradicts the principle of good neighborliness that Iraq believes in and pursues in relations with its neighbors. They highlighted that the security challenges are to be dealt with via diplomatic channels and joint security cooperation.

    4. The necessity for the security committees in the governorates to bear their full responsibility to maintain security, and not to allow chaos that terrifies citizens, as it causes security disturbances that negatively affect the activities and daily life of the people there.

    5. Directing all security forces to deal with high discipline with the citizens, and to cooperate with them by removing all obstacles that would facilitate them to carry out their daily affairs. In addition to it, a positive mutual relationship must be created between the security and the citizen based on respect for the law, and the preservation of the state prestige.

    At the conclusion of the meeting, PM Al-Kadhimi stated, stressing "the need for all political forces to confront their national responsibility, to adopt a national dialogue to resolve crises, strengthen the rule of law, address the file of uncontrolled weapons and eliminate armed manifestations that threaten the security of the citizen and civil peace."
