FM stresses importance of launching comprehensive Syrian national dialogue to support transitional process

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein stressed today, Sunday, the importance of launching a comprehensive Syrian national dialogue in supporting all stages of the transitional process.

The ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein met with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, on the sidelines of the conference held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Syria." 

The statement added, "During the meeting, ways to enhance bilateral relations between Iraq and the European Union were discussed, as both sides expressed their desire to hold the Iraqi-European Joint Committee to deepen cooperation in various fields."

The High Representative of the European Union stressed - according to the statement - "the importance of enhancing communication and continuous coordination with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, especially with regard to the political process in Syria", noting the need to "benefit from the Iraqi experience in this context, stressing the importance of continuing joint coordination in confronting ISIS and addressing the challenges of the phenomenon of foreign fighters in Syria".

 The statement continued, "The meeting touched on the importance of launching a comprehensive Syrian national dialogue, as well as the planned national conference, and the role of the European Union in supporting all stages of the transitional process, from building constitutional institutions to achieving sustainable development and preparing the conditions for the return of the displaced and displaced to their homes". 

The statement concluded, "Kaja Kallas expressed her desire to enhance cooperation and coordination with Iraq during the next stage, stressing the need to develop bilateral relations and hold joint meetings to achieve the common goals between the two parties."
