Political crisis is solvable, says Sayyed Al-Hakim to the US Assistant Secretary of State

    The head of the National Wisdom Movement - AlHikma, Ammar al-Hakim stressed on Monday, during his meeting with Barbara Leaf, the United States Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs that the political crisis is solvable and reform starts with reforming institutions.

    Al-Hakim met Leaf as the US ambassador in Baghdad Elena Romaneski attended the meeting where they discussed files of common interest and bilateral relations, in addition to developments in the political scene in Iraq and the region, according to a statement by Al-Hakim's office received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

    According to the statement, Al-Hakim highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of infrastructure development and reconstruction, stressing the continuation of cooperation in a manner that protect the interests of all and the sovereignty of Iraq.

    He stressed that "the political crisis in Iraq is solvable if everyone has the will to resolve and compromise the Iraqi interest, indicating the importance of partnership in Iraqi decision-making. Decision-making does not require participation in the government."

    "Respect for the constitutional institutions in Iraq is a must as reform begins with reforming the institutions, recalling that the democratic practice came as a result of the great sacrifices made by Iraq in the face of dictatorship and terrorism," he included. 

    On the issues of the region, Al-Hakim asserted that any dialogue aimed at calming the atmosphere between the parties in the region is in the interest of Iraq and everyone, as "Iraq played a role in bringing points of view closer to its conviction that dialogue is the best way and the problems are solvable if everyone goes towards it."
