US Assistant Secretary of State for (INA): We closely follow the Iraqi political scene and call for dialogue

    The US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Barbara Leaf confirmed on Monday, that the US administration is closely following the Iraqi political scene, emphasizing that the voice of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Sayyed Muqtada al-Sadr and other leaders should be heard.
     
    Leaf told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), during a round table held in the presence of a number of media outlets that "The priority of President Biden administration, especially the Secretary of State, is concerned with Iraq's stability and security," noting that "sovereignty is institutions that citizens and elites aspire to, and it’s also the process of decision making free of external interference.”
     
     
    She stressed, "Washington, National Security, the Secretary of State and Defense ministry and others are closely following the Iraqi scene, and the latest events that took place last week indicate that the political scene has reached the edge of the abyss."
     
     
    Leaf added, "The conflict between the political elites can only be resolved through dialogue and reaching a result and solutions, and this can only be achieved if the politicians want that," calling on "Iraq's leaders to take the decision and for all leaders to sit down, whether the solution is through a transitional government, new elections or a new government."
     
    "We believe that the Iraqi leaders are able to take the right decision for the interest of Iraq," she said.
     
     
    She explained, " "The fundamental essence of democracy is inclusivity that accommodates opposing voices and does not tolerate exclusion, if inclusivity did not achieved, the failure will be ultimate  ," noting that "the dialogue is underway, hosted by Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi."
     
    Leaf pointed out that "Sayyed Muqtada al-Sadr has followers and a large audience, and his voice with other leaders must be heard, but with dialogue to move forward, “explaining that "the strategic framework agreement is great."
     
    She noted, "We are facing continuous obstacles, and the political blockage is nothing but an obstacle to achieving the real agenda, which is Iraq's interest," noting that "Iraq owns 85 billion in the federal fund."
     
    Leaf indicated that "40 million Iraqis expect the best, and this is their right," 
    She stressed that "Iraq is a friend of America, and our partnership with it is real at the international and regional levels, and there are commonalities between us," calling on "Iraqi leaders to overcome the fundamental conflicts between them to reach the goal, which is to reach a solution."
     
    She praised "the positive role of Iraq by adopting dialogue between America and Iran."
