Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi pledged that the city of Basra's hosting of the 25th Gulf Championship would be a decent football wedding in the name of Iraq.
Al-Kadhimi said in a tweet followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We congratulate our beloved Iraq and our Basra, the consensus of the Gulf Football Association to host (Gulf 25) after this long-awaited and postponed due to force majeure circumstances that passed through Iraq."
He added: "We promise our people and our brothers in the Gulf that this football wedding will be appropriate in the name of Iraq, and a role model in football circles."
