The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) announced on Thursday, that five Iraqi universities will compete with their counterparts in the QS World Ranking.
MOHESR stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "One thousand five hundred universities in the world have won competitive positions in the (QS) World University Rankings, which announced the results of its version for the year 2023."
The statement added, "The official website of the classification showed the University of Baghdad in the rank (801-1000), Al-Mustansiriya University in the rank (1001-1200), the University of Kufa in the rank(1001-1200), the University of Babylon in the rank(1201+) and the University of Basra in the rank (1201+).

The statement pointed out that " Qs rankings depends in evaluating university institutions on the criteria of academic reputation (40%), employers (10%), the ratio of students to teachers (20%), citations (20%), international educators (5%) and international students (5%).
Iraqi universities and colleges recorded their escalating competition in international rankings, including The Times rankings in which there are currently four universities, the (QS) rankings in which there are five universities, the (Scimago) rankings in which there are twenty-two institutions, and the (Greenmetric) rankings, which Sixty-six Iraqi universities and colleges listed in it, and the URAP rankings, in which four Iraqi universities are listed, in addition to the Webometrics classification, which recorded the competition of eighty-nine Iraqi universities and colleges.
