Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein confirmed that Iraq will not be a starting point for attacking any country.
Hussein said, during his meeting with Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, that "Iraq is committed to enhancing the level of cooperation and coordination with Iran in various bilateral, regional and international fields."
He added, "Iraq will not be a launching pad for attacking the security of Iran or any country," stressing that "Iraq is ready for broad cooperation, including the security field, to prevent any threat to Iran's interests."
For his part, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi stressed the "common religious and cultural commonalities between the two countries," noting that "the relations between the two countries go beyond the well-known neighborly relations and the will of the Islamic Republic of Iran is to strengthen these brotherly relations."
He explained, "Tehran and Baghdad have security and intertwined common interests, and the enemies cannot interfere in this regard," noting that "the Islamic Republic of Iran has always affirmed its support for the unity and territorial integrity of Iraq and the unity of all sects and religions in Iraq, and that this is the basis for maintaining stability."
Raisi stressed, "Tehran seriously expects the neighboring countries, especially Iraq, not to allow any foreign presence targeting the Islamic Republic of Iran, whether in areas controlled by the federal government or in areas controlled by the Kurdistan region."
He added, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has demonstrated the brotherly state of its neighbors in practice, and it was a friend to it in times of war, and not just a friend in a time of joy in victory, and therefore we expect neighboring countries to be aware of the enemies' plots."
