The Ministry of Transport announced that Iraq ranked first in the Middle East region in terms of air traffic intensity.
The Director General of the General Company for Air Navigation Services, one of the ministry's formations, Nizar Ibrahim Al-Ziyadi, said in a statement that "the Air Traffic Management Department was able to attract air traffic to Iraqi airspace at very good rates compared to the rate of flights for the year 2020 due to pandemic conditions." Noting that "the company has been coordinating since the beginning of 2021 with all relevant authorities, international airlines, ICAO, the Air Transport Association, IATA, in addition to the US Federal Civil Aviation Administration FAA, the Joint Operations Command and other parties concerned with the field of aviation to take all steps to revive air traffic in Iraq sky."
He stressed that "the outcomes of the 17 MIDRMA Conference (the Middle East Regional Monitoring Agency of the International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO) confirmed with statistics that Iraq obtained the four busiest air traffic points in the Middle East, out of the first five points that are Iraqi and are considered the most momentum and used in air traffic. In the Middle East for the year 2021,” noting that “ this achievement reflects the efforts of all employees of the Air Traffic Management Department in general and the Air Operations Division in particular, which has been consistently participating in the meetings held by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO MID) and reviewing the continuous updates to global air navigation requirements with Iraqi young cadres gave the opportunity to innovate."
