Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on Thursday laid a wreath at the Unknown Soldier Monument to mark the 101st anniversary of the army's foundation.
"Al-Kadhimi visited the Unknown Soldier's Monument in central Baghdad to mark the 101st anniversary of the founding of the Iraqi army," the prime minister's media office said in a statement received by the official Iraqi news agency INA.
"On this occasion, the prime minister laid a wreath to commemorate the sacrifices of the Iraqi soldiers, martyrs and missing persons," he said, adding that he read Sura al-Fatiha in honor of the pure spirits that sacrificed in order to raise Iraq and preserve the dignity of its people," he said.
