Baghdad-INA
The Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce set on Wednesday the terms of obtaining import permits, while explaining the mechanism for determining customs duties.
"Import conditions were issued by a letter from the General Secretariat of the cabinet in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce - The General Company for Exhibitions and Commercial Services of Iraq, and every trader who owns an import company has the right to obtain an import license," federation President Abdul Razzaq al-Zuhairi told The Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"Importing is a profession that does not affect production, but the failure to control border ports has had a negative impact on the application of the tariff law and the product protection law," al-Zuhairi said.
"The determination of customs duties is carried out in accordance with the schedules of the tariff law and additional duties to protect the product, if any," he said, noting that "markets govern the mechanism of supply and demand, and dealing with the effects of dumping is carried out through the Product Protection Act, which is the guarantor of the protection of Iraqi products and is the defense of local products."
"Quality is measured by the Ministry of Planning and the Central Agency for Quality Standardization and Control specifically, which is responsible for issuing certificates of conformity in accordance with Iraqi standards," al-Zuhairi said.
