The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, stressed that the legislative elections must be fair and reflect the will of the Iraqis.
Saleh said in his speech during the memorial ceremony on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of the death of former President Jalal Talabani, and followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We gather today to remember the great national leader, the late Iraq's Mam Jalal Talabani," noting that "the great national leader, exemplified in his life the struggle of the Kurdish and Iraqi people for more than half a century, and he confronted in important stages of the political struggle, and was a field commander of the Peshmerga.”
He added, "Mam Jalal led the Kurdish political struggle in particular and the Iraqi struggle in general against dictatorship and stressed that achieving the Kurdish people's ambition for freedom is Iraq's redemption from dictatorship."
Speaking about the legislative elections next Sunday, he pointed out that "the elections must be fair and transparent, expressing the will of the Iraqis, and we must meet after the elections for the good of Iraq."
