Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein confirmed, today, Friday, that Iraq has taken many steps to stop immigration, while calling on the concerned countries to the importance of carrying out their responsibilities and the need to deal with Iraqi citizens stranded at the borders in a humane and appropriate manner.
A statement by the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The statement added, "The meeting discussed the progress of bilateral relations between Baghdad and Warsaw, And ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries in all fields, and Hussein expressed his happiness with this meeting, "referring to the efforts made by Iraq, which contribute to strengthening regional and international peace and security, because the stability and security of the region will reflect positively on peace and security in Iraq.".
He pointed out that "the two parties also discussed coordinating efforts and strengthening cooperation between the two countries in order to reduce illegal immigration." .
Hussein stressed, according to the statement, that "Iraq has assumed all its responsibilities in curbing this phenomenon, with the presence of criminal groups that exploit some citizens in order to smuggle them in exchange for huge sums," noting that "Iraq has taken many steps to stop immigration," calling on the countries concerned to the importance of carrying out their responsibilities. And the need to deal with Iraqi citizens stranded at the borders in a humane and appropriate manner, and not to use any arbitrary or coercive measure against them.
For his part, Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau praised the pivotal and vital role that Iraq began to play in the Middle East through initiatives aimed at resolving disputes and differences between regional countries in the region, stressing his country's support for the sovereignty and unity of Iraq, expressing his aspiration to strengthen economic relations between the two countries.
